Massage Therapy

Sessions are 60, 75, 90 or 120 minutes in length

Relaxation

Relaxation massage gives you time to let go of both the mental and physical stresses of your day.  The benefits of this gentle massage can last for several days after your treatment.  It can help to: lower your blood pressure, improve skin tone and appearance, increase peripheral circulation, regulate gastrointestinal motility, reduce muscle tension and tension headaches, and alleviate stress-related symptoms.  This is the ideal type of massage for someone new to massage therapy, someone who has recently returned from a hospital stay,  someone who rarely slows down and wants to unwind, and an elderly client who wants gentle and careful massage.

Sports

Sports massages is geared toward athletes and those aspiring to become athletes.  It is used to help prevent injuries, to prepare the body for athletic activity, training, or competitions, maintain the athletic body in optimal condition, and to help athletes recover from workouts and injuries.  This massage can be very site specific if that is requested.  I utilize a lot of range of motion moves to increase the blood flow to the muscles and connective tissues surrounding the joints.

Deep tissue massage is designed to relieve long-held pain and muscle tension throughout the body. This type of massage is extremely beneficial because it reaches the deepest layer of muscles, fascia (connective tissue surrounding the joints) and tendons. The goal in deep tissue massage is to breakdown adhesions (tense areas within the muscle) and allow the blood to flow more freely into those muscles and flush out any toxins held within. Working at this deeper level with the muscles also requires slow deep breathing on the part of the client, which can be very meditative and help to clear the mind.

Deep Tissue

This massage technique uses heated stones to relax and massage sore muscles.  The heat of the stones is deeply relaxing and helps warm up particularly tight muscles.  This heat causes blood vessels to expand, allowing blood circulation to increase and releases accumulated toxins that have become trapped in body tissues.  This style is beneficial for people suffering from restless leg syndrome and excessively tight muscles.  The Hot Stone Massage needs to be at least 75 minutes in length, but is best enjoyed as a 90 minute session.

Pre-Natal, Post Pregnancy, and Infant massage and instruction are all available.  This is an area I specialize in.  I really enjoy providing pregnant women with a deeply soothing session to take care of her as her body progresses through this incredible transformation.  I focus on whatever she needs with an emphasis on neck/shoulders and lower back/hip/pelvic work to relieve muscle tension and stress on weight-bearing joints, helping provide much needed relaxation for mother-to-be and baby.

Reflexology can be a very useful addition to a pregnancy massage to provide release to the added demands on her feet.   I am also happy to teach infant yoga and shiatsu to Mom for soothing the newborns' adjustment to their new body's challenges.  I can teach family members massage techniques for labor assistance as well.

Pregnancy (For Mom and Family)

This massage is a great way for couples to enjoy some wellness time together. It is common for a couple to add this to their anniversary day celebration.

For a person new to massage, this is a comfortable way to receive a massage therapy session with a companion of your choice.

Mother's Day, Father's Day, or a Birthday, are common occasions to gift someone a side-by-side massage session.

Either way, both parties will receive a side-by-side full body therapeutic massage.

Side by Side

A very gentle session of healing touch designed for the elder individual's specific  needs.  Many pillows and bolsters are available to properly position people with compromised mobility issues.  An initial conversation with a family member about what issues the client is facing is required prior, to the massage session.

Elder Care

Acupressure is received clothed.  It is based on the Ancient System of Chinese Medicine.  It uses finger pressure to influence the body's electromagnetic field rather than the needles of acupuncture.  It is based on the same Meridian Pathway System in the human body of the Five Element Theory of Chinese Medicine. Acupressure relaxes the mind, body, and spirit.   This is a very gentle bodywork modality and allows the client to relax into a deeply calming state of being, that allows the energetic body to be worked with rather than just the muscular tissue.  As a result, life-long-held energetic blockages in the body can be gently and safely cleared using Acupressure.  This is an appropriate modality for people who prefer finger pressure over needles and who do want to benefit from the Chinese Medicine system.  It can also be of profound benefit to those who are trying to heal from some deep emotional disturbances and regain balance to once again thrive in their lives, as it can be done fully clothed and is very gentle.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu clients arrive wearing stretchy clothing for this bodywork modality.  Shiatsu works to improve overall health by affecting the internal energy system. This Asian System, originally from Japan, relies on the use of the fingers, thumbs, and palms to apply pressure to various areas of the body’s surface to help heal common ailments and conditions, and correct imbalances in the body. Using the Meridian system of Chinese Medicine, pressure is applied to points on the body promoting energy flow and balancing disharmony throughout the patient’s body. Shiatsu includes stretches and range-of-motion movements to increase flexibility of the joints.  In addition to being a deeply relaxing experience, Shiatsu helps relieve stress, treats pain and illness, and contributes to a patient’s overall health and well-being.  This style also creates a deep awareness of one's own breathing rhythm, which calms the mind.

Thai massage is as I describe it, assisted yoga.  This is a clothed massage and is done on a thin futon mat on the floor, and requires the client to wear stretchy clothing to the session.  As one of the Asian Healing Systems, it treats the electromagnetic energy field which surrounds, infuses, and brings the body to life through pressure and/or manipulative massage. Traditional Thai massage is known for its ability to clear the energy pathways. Some of the benefits of traditional Thai massage are:  an increase in flexibility and range of movement, eliminates muscle pain and muscle spasms, improves postural alignment, calms and relaxes the nervous system, while also increasing endurance energy levels, allows for a significant release of deep, emotional distress, stimulates blood circulation and lymph drainage, stimulates internal organs, relieves fatigue, swollen limbs, painful joints, and headaches.  This style of massage is ideal for skiers, runners, cyclists, and people experiencing edema in the legs from standing for long hours in the daytime.  Thai massage sessions are 90 minutes to 120 minutes in length.

Tui Na is a therapeutic form of Asian massage and is for giving special treatments to people of all ages, from infancy to old age. Tui Na makes use of rhythmic compression techniques along different energy channels of the body to establish harmonious flow of Qi throughout the body, bringing it back to balance. It works deeply with the positive energy of the body. The best part of the therapy is that it relaxes as well as energizes the person.  The main benefit of Tui Na massage is that it focuses on the specific problem, whether it is an acute or a chronic pain associated with the joints, muscles or a skeletal system. It is very beneficial in reducing the pain of neck, shoulders, hips, back, arms, thighs, legs and ankle disorders and effective for arthritis, pain, sciatica and muscle spasms. Other benefits of this massage therapy include alleviation of the stress related disorders like insomnia, constipation, headaches and other disorders related to digestive, respiratory and reproductive systems.  The greatest advantage of Tui Na is that it focuses on maintaining overall balance with both physical and mental health.

Add-Ons:

This massage style is a therapeutic method of relieving pain in the body by stimulating the associated pressure points on the feet and hands.  The whole body is represented in the foot and hand in this system. This controlled pressure alleviates the source of the discomfort by stimulating the nerves in the body and encouraging the flow of blood. In the process, reflexology not only quells the sensation of pain, but relieves the source of the pain as well.  This bodywork style can be very useful for women in the latter stages of pregnancy, for people who spend a lot of time on their feet, for elderly people who are experiencing a lot of all over body stiffness, and for people new to massage and healing touch.

REFLEXOLOGY

Exfoliating scrubs allow for the removal of dead, keratinized skin cells that sit on the skin's surface. Exfoliating leaves your skin smoother and fresher looking. The rubbing action itself boosts circulation and helps drain your lymph nodes, by increasing blood flow to the skin’s surface. But another important benefit of using a scrub is how good it can feel in the moment. Being mindful of the refreshing texture against your skin and captivating aromatherapy allows you to enjoy the treatment as it’s happening—an experience that can lift your mood and affect your outlook as you continue your day or evening. This is often enjoyed in the Spring season as an all over skin cleanse and detoxifier.

EXFOLIATING SCRUB

This session is a relaxing massage that uses heat and rich moisturizing massage cream to penetrate the skin and leave you feeling silky smooth and your skin hydrated.  After the thick cream is massaged into the skin, the client is wrapped up in a heated blanket to allow the deeper penetration of the creams emollients.  Often this add-on is combined with the exfoliating scrub with a shower in between to create a complete replenishing of the skin.  This is popular in the Winter season as our skins tends to be drier than normal.
